To Those Who Wait

Back in 2013 I bought a bottle of 2012 Goose Island Pepe Nero from Smyrna Beer Market.  It’s recommended to let it age for 5 years before opening and it had already aged for a year prior to my purchase. I hid it in the back of a cabinet for 4 years so I wouldn’t be tempted to open it. Checking the bottle once or twice a year wondering what the hell was going on in there. Finally 6/13/17 came and here’s how it went…

I didn’t know what to expect since I personally have never let a beer age before. Not on purpose anyway. For starters, I drank it from the wrong glass. I didn’t notice it was a Belgian style until after I poured it, tasted it, AND THEN read the bottle. Look: Dark brown, little head. Smell: I don’t remember and I didn’t right it down. Why lie?  Taste: Peppery, toasty, raisins, molasses, strong boozy finish.  I’m not wild about Belgian style beers, but I’m glad I tried it. IMG_0255

I wish I had release from a previous year to make the comparison, but I’ll jot that down for next time. I’m open to recommendations for the next “aging” experience.  I know this post isn’t as action packed as the others, but this one deserved it’s own special little post.

High Fives and Shout outs

  1. Me for having the patience to keep a beer for 5 years without opening it.
  2. Me again for breaking up with corporate America. I’m going to spend the next few months scaring the shit out of myself (Sorry Mom) and being happy as clam while doing so.
  3. The tennis and racquetball scenes on the Netflix show Friend From College. I got a hearty scream laugh from that.
  4. Another Round’s Tracy for Fort Night! I was just doing it for fun, but it turned out to be very therapeutic.

Thumbs Down and WTFs

  1. Sisqo for remaking The Thong Song. Live the classics alone!
  2. Tootsie Rolls. Still nasty af.

Don’t forget to hydrate.  Cheers y’all!
